Pension Contributions

Every worker is enrolled in a defined contribution pension scheme, with minimum contributions from both you and your employer.

Minimum contributions are 5% of base pay from your employer and 5% of base pay from you, based on the 38-hour basic working week (or pro-rata if you work fewer hours in the week).

Minimum contributions are based on the 38-hour basic week, pro-rata if you work fewer hours.

5% is the contractual minimum. You may pay more voluntarily, without matching employer contributions.

This estimates the minimum scheme contribution based on base pay only. A salary sacrifice scheme may be available, subject to HMRC rules, to save on National Insurance. If you believe you already have a more favourable employer pension, you may (with employer consent) keep it instead of this scheme.

How it works

  • Enrolment is a contractual requirement for the duration of your HPC assignment.
  • Contributions are calculated on base pay only, for the 38-hour basic working week (pro-rata if fewer hours).
  • Minimum is 5% worker + 5% employer - you can pay more voluntarily, but the employer isn't required to match extra amounts.
  • A salary sacrifice scheme may be available, subject to HMRC rules.
  • This is not intended to worsen a more favourable existing pension - you may keep that instead, with employer consent.
