Paid Training & Public Holidays

How you're paid during safety/skills training, and what happens if you're asked to work a public holiday.

Pay during training

Payment during safety and quality culture awareness training is at your basic rate, plus the same hourly bonus earned by your integrated team at the workface.

All workers are required to participate in the project training and skills development programme as part of their team, wherever reasonably required.

Working a public holiday

  • The Client may fix up to 10 days' holiday for HPC workers around public holidays (e.g. Christmas and New Year).
  • Any work undertaken on a public holiday is paid at Overtime Rate B (x1.8).
  • You're also entitled to an additional day's holiday in lieu.
  • The timing of non-fixed holidays is agreed between you and your contractor, established as far in advance as possible.

See the Overtime & Shift Premium calculator for your Rate B figure by grade.

Skills development programme

All parties are committed to developing and deploying a skills development programme for the project, delivered mainly through daily workface activity (alongside some offsite training).

  • Participation in project training and individual skill development is a condition and contractual requirement.
  • The programme supports significant numbers of traditional and adult apprentices joining the workforce.
  • Delivery is monitored by the JPB, through the EAU, with full engagement of accredited Union representatives, including Union learning representatives.
